About this place
The signature Negiyaki Konchikushō puts Kujo spring onions centre stage, with konjac, chikuwa fish cake and ginger in a dish whose name is as memorable as its combination of fillings. You can also choose versions with beef or pork. Go for the Konchikushō to enjoy the mix of ingredients, or add meat for a more substantial pancake.
For noodles, try the udon topped with Kyoto yuba and nama-fu, or wheat-gluten cakes, served with a broth rich in bonito flavour. Other options include udon with fragrant seared chicken and spring onions in a light salt broth, and Kujo spring onion curry udon, whose Kyoto-style curry broth soaks into chopped fried tofu.
For sharing, the six-piece kushi-katsu assortment includes beef, pork, sausage, onion, quail egg and prawn. The ten-piece set adds lotus root, aubergine, squid and nama-fu, making it fun to work through the skewers one by one. You can also order individual skewers, including onion, lotus root and prawn.
Some diners have described the gyoza as large and generously filled. The menu includes dumplings filled with Kujo spring onions and Kyoto Pork, as well as round buns with Kujo spring onions mixed into the filling. They make tempting additions between the negiyaki and kushi-katsu. Genzou is an izakaya in Nishiki Market, offering both dine-in and takeaway.
